Ethos, Aims and Values
School Ethos
Smarden prides itself on high expectations for all in every aspect of school life, on achievement and excellence built on strong foundations of wellbeing. We are proud of our caring and nurturing family atmosphere, which is seen as integral to school life and where pupils feel safe; Staff know each individual child and build strong relationships with every family, so that children are fully included and well-supported both academically and pastorally.
Our high academic standards and exemplary behaviour are matched by our passion and commitment to educating the ‘whole-child’ through a challenging and enriching curriculum. Our broad and deep curriculum, which develops a wide range of skills, knowledge and interests in our children, gives them the tools needed to be happy and successful in life. It encourages every child to become a self confident, resilient and resourceful ‘Life Long learner’ who thinks for themself, and can lead others.
Our core values of Ambition, Respect and Kindness underpin all aspects of school life. We seek to inspire ambition in all - a 'Desire and determination to achieve success'. We encourage all pupils and all staff to achieve their potential, to strive to reach goals through hard work and a thirst for learning, attaining wellbeing and happiness through purpose and achievement. Pupils at this school care for, and nurture each other; kindness to others is at the heart of everything we do. We show respect to one another; we respect differences, our environment, our community.
The atmosphere of the school, the quality of relationships, and the way in which the school helps to deal with difficulties, all combine to develop children who will have a fair sense of justice and the ability to be valued citizens of the future. Each child is special to us, we want every child to achieve their full potential and to leave us with their head inspired and their heart enriched
