Safeguarding Champions and Jigsaw Leaders
One member of each class from Year R - Year 6 is selected to become the class safeguarding champion. These pupils meet with Mrs Miller, the Designated Safeguarding Lead, at least once/ term. They discuss how safe the school feels for pupils, and ideas for improving how we keep pupils safe, happy and healthy. They may talk to class mates to gather views on subjects, e.g. the toilets, bullying or playtime games, which they then feed back to Mrs Miller at the meetings. This year, the safeguarding champions have designed their own pupils survey, and are currently collating the results of these. Let’s see what changes they bring as a result!
The safeguarding champions also run assemblies over the year on the topic of keeping yourself and others safe.
If you are worried about anything at home or at school, it’s good to talk to a trusted adult. Any adult at Smarden will help pupils. If you feel you cannot talk to an adult, you could always speak to your class safeguarding champion who will support you to seek help.
